Global Metal DVDrip

Synopsis:

A globe-spanning and superior sequel to the wildly successful METAL: A HEADBANGER'S JOURNEY, continuing that film's anthropological exploration of the sprawling underground tribe of heavy metal fans. This time we follow metal anthropologist Sam Dunn across five continents as he explores the nuances and social impact of metal culture in Brazil, Indonesia, China, India, Israel, Iran and elsewhere. Along the way Sam encounters several stalwarts of the scene, including metal legends such as Metallica, Sepultura and Iron Maiden who continue to gather the faithful in ever-expanding locations. The film places particular emphasis on the complex role of metal culture within globalization, and also as a form of resistance within repressive societies.

Metalocalypse - Season 1

Description:

Metalocalypse parodies other "band" and supernatural programs, combining dark comedy and Apocalyptic intrigue in following the exploits of the part-American/part-Scandinavian death metal band Dethklok. The band enjoys a popularity level unheard of in reality, ranking as the seventh largest economy on Earth. They are so popular that impressionable fans will often do anything their songs tell them, even if it means death, which is usually the case. If Dethklok endorses a product or service, it quickly drives every competitor out of business. Part of the show's appeal is also high-quality metal music written by guitarist/creator Brendon Small and others, which is accredited to the band, and is featured in most episodes including actual guitar-fingerings and other band-movements of the characters.

Heavy Metal - Louder Than Life

Description:

Since it arrived in the 70’s Metal has been the most enduring form of popular music culture the world has known. Rumored to have died it is of course undead, and continues to mutate and infiltrate . . . This documentary is a considered look at the continuing story of Metal, in the words of the people that make it, live it, breathe it and keep it vital. What makes it tick, why nothing else can touch it for power, emotion and longevity, why it’s misunderstood, why it doesn’t care, how it continues to upset the establishment, how it manipulates the media, the positivity, and the way it has forced its iconography and ethos deep into an unsuspecting and unwilling mainstream. Created by award winning duo Director Dick Carruthers (Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, The White Stipes) and Producer Jim Parsons (MTV Headbangers’ Ball. New Kings of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Re:covered) Heavy Metal is a long overdue film that unravels the music, the myths and the madness..

Boston Beatdown Vol. II DVD 2004

Boston Beatdown Vol. II DVD 2004

Boston Beatdown, Volume 2 is either a shocking testament to the history of Boston's ultra-violent harcore community or raw material for an anthropological study of rock territoriality. Not exactly a documentary--a documentary has a point-of-view--Boston Beatdown is a rough compilation of amateur footage of young males (and some females) beating each other to a pulp, time after time, as hardcore enthusiasts wage war against anyone who isn't them at clubs and private gigs. Somewhere in the relentless bloodletting we hear the churning rage-rock of Blood for Blood, Death Before Dishonor, and Ten Yard Fight, and there are (academically speaking) fascinating interviews with past and present members of Boston's F.S.U. gang, which formed a decade or so ago to cleanse their turf of just about everybody. Among the horrors here is the film's palpable delight at footage of Moby being assaulted by several cretins on a Boston sidewalk. --Tom Keogh

This Is Spın̈al Tap

Description:

This Is Spın̈al Tap (officially spelled with a non-functional umlaut over the letter 'n' and dotless 'i') is a 1984 mock rockumentary directed by Rob Reiner and starring members of the fictional heavy-metal/hard rock band Spinal Tap. The film satirizes the wild personal behavior and musical pretensions of hard-rock and heavy-metal bands, as well as the hagiographic tendencies of rockumentaries of the time.

Metal: A Headbanger's Journey

Description:

Metal: A Headbanger's Journey is a 2005 documentary directed by Sam Dunn with Scot McFadyen and Jessica Wise. The film follows 31-year-old Sam Dunn, a Canadian anthropologist, who has been a heavy metal fan since the age of 12. He sets out across the world to uncover the various opinions on heavy metal music, including its origins, culture, controversy, and reasons it is loved by so many people.

The film discusses the traits and originators of some of metal's many subgenres, including the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, power metal, glam metal, thrash metal, black metal, and death metal. Dunn uses a family-tree-type flowchart to document some of the most popular metal subgenres. The film also explores various aspects of heavy metal culture. Notable segments include Dunn taking a trip to the Wacken Open Air festival, an interview with Dee Snider providing an analysis of the PMRC attack on heavy metal music, and an interview with several Norwegian black metal bands, many of whom support Satanism and openly discuss the burning of Norwegian churches.

Heavy: The Story of Metal

Contents:

Part One

This part of the documentary talks about the beginning of heavy metal music and how the term came about. It also documents punk rock's threat to heavy metal's popularity.

Part Two

This part focuses on the rise of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, the Soundhouse in London, and the beginning of the L.A. scene with Van Halen. It also talks about Ronnie James Dio's influence on the birth of the "devil horns" and metal's leather fashion brought on by Rob Halford.

Part Three

Part Three focuses mostly on the glam metal movement of the 80s, the use of keyboards in metal, the "power ballad", and the decline of the genre. It also talks about the P.M.R.C hearings, the 1984 film This is Spinal Tap, and the 1988 "rockumentary" The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years.

Part Four

This part talks about the emergence of the underground sound of thrash metal in the 80's and the popularity of Guns N Roses. It also talks about the popularity rise in rap rock, nu metal, Marilyn Manson, and Ozzfest.
